How To Get the Most Out of Our Online Arthritis Support Group

You can get in your car and drive to your local support group meeting, or just put on your PJ's and sign on your computer.

Here's How:

  1. Sign on to the Internet.

  2. Go to our Arthritis Forum / Message Board.

  3. Be willing to share your experiences.

  4. Be open and honest with your communication.

  5. Be a good listener.

  6. Be polite and use proper netiquette.

  7. Do not use caps since it indicates YOU ARE SHOUTING.

  8. Use emoticons, such as symbols for smiling or frowning, as indicators of the emotion that you are trying to convey.

  9. Be guarded with personal information which should remain private.

  10. Participate on a regular basis.

  11. Welcome all new members.

  12. As a new participant, be patient. Observe how the forum / message board is run and give others the opportunity to interact with you.

  13. Be flexible and go with the flow of conversation. If you don't receive an immediate reply, don't assume the worst. You're not being ignored - try again.

Tips:

  1. Be open to new friendships.

  2. Since you can preserve your anonymity, don't be fearful of participating.

  3. Think before typing.
